Lyrics: ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’ by Queen

                                                Loving Forever

‘Who wants to live forever’

Spike woke with the sense that someone had been in his crypt while he slept. He sat up and looked around, yet saw nothing out of place.

Getting up, the weary blonde vampire dragged a hand through his hair, attempting to straighten the unruly locks.

As he walked over to the small table next to the chair in front of the television, he saw a small flower and a note with his name.

He reached a shaking hand to lift the paper. He could smell her scent on it, that elusive perfume that was the slayer.

‘What is this thing that builds our dreams yet…..’

He read the words that stared back up at him.

“Please come to my house tonight as soon as the sun goes down. B.”

He had only a few more minutes to wait before he could leave. Turning, he tucked the note in his pocket as he went to clean up and change clothes.

Within thirty minutes of waking up, Spike was heading for Buffy’s house. Anxiety held him in the palm of its hand, worrying him like a dog with a bone.

She’d not spoken to him for over a week. It had been several more weeks since her mum had died and a couple of weeks before that she had shut him out of her house.

‘Who dares to love forever?’

Spike knocked on her front door and waited nervously.

The door swung open as Buffy looked out at the vampire.

“Spike, would you like to come in please?”

He looked at her with those beautifully expressive blue eyes and stepped into the house for seemed the first time in forever.

“Hello, Buffy. You wanted to see me?”

“Yes, Spike. Come sit down with me?”

She turned and walked into the living room. On the coffee table was a tray holding a pot of hot chocolate, a container of small marshmallows and two cups and saucers. Buffy sat on the sofa and poured two cups of hot chocolate, adding a few marshmallows to one cup. She handed it to Spike, sitting back against the sofa and turning so she could look at his pale sculptured face.

“Spike. I asked you to come over because I need to apologize to you.”

“When you told me that you loved me, I was afraid. I remembered all the horrible things that happened because I loved another vampire and I was afraid. But I’ve had time now to think and I know how fleeting time can be with someone you love.  I thought about all the things I never told my mom or did with her.”

Buffy sat her cup down untouched and got up, pacing back and forth.

“I didn’t want that to happen with you. What I was afraid of most was my own feelings for you.”

She stopped and looked him in the eye. Spike felt his throat tighten, his mouth go dry. He took a sip of the drink and set the cup down. The liquid had trouble getting past the lump in his throat that he knew had to be his heart.

“You were right. There is something between us. I can’t deny it any longer. I don’t want to deny it any longer.”

‘It's all decided for us’

Spike stood hesitantly, unsure if he should go to her or not.

“What are you sayin’, Buffy?”

“I’m saying, that I love you, Spike. I have for a while. I may have been falling in love with you for a long time. I’ve never been able to kill you….”

“Right now, that’s the last thing I want to do.”

‘And we can have forever

      And we can love forever’

The slender blonde vampire slipped out of his leather duster, dropping it un-noticed on the sofa behind him as he took a step toward her, his eyes never breaking contact with hers. His voice was husky with hope and passion at the look in her eyes as they met his.

“What do you want to do, Luv?”

He took another slow step toward her.

Tension filled the air between them, flowed over them in waves they could almost touch.

Buffy took another step toward him.

“I want to feel your arms around me, feel your lips on mine. I want you to take me upstairs to my room and finally do what we’ve both been dreaming about. I want you to love me, Spike.”

He crossed the last few steps quickly with her, pulling her close in his arms, bending his head to capture her lips with his and drink her into himself.

Her small slender arms wove around his neck and pulled him closer, drowning in the feel and sensations of his body, his lips on hers.

They broke the kiss gasping for breath.

Spike reached down to scoop the small blonde woman he loved into his arms and turned toward the stairs.

His eyes captured hers “I do love you, Buffy. I don‘t want anyone but you. I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make you happy. I’ll love you forever.”

‘Who wants to live forever

   Who wants to live forever....?

He carried her to her bedroom gently laying her on the bed.

Buffy watched him as he slowly undressed, his eyes never leaving hers.

“Spike, you’re beautiful. I had no idea how beautiful you were.”

He slowly helped her remove her clothes, leaving her as nude and vulnerable as himself facing her.

“You’re the one that is beautiful, Buffy.” He leaned down and covered her lips with his own again as he crawled gracefully onto the side of the bed next to her.

Buffy wrapped her arms around Spike and pulled him with her as she slowly lay back on the bed. She pulled Spike’s body over hers like a gleaming blanket.

‘Forever is our today’

They spent the next several hours exploring each other. They made love and discovered love. They laughed and talked and loved with joyous abandon.

“Spike” Buffy gasped as she tried to draw enough air into her lungs. The love she felt for him; that she felt from him, literally took her breath away. “I want you .. to claim me, love.  Make me yours forever, love.” Buffy gasped into his neck.

He pulled his head back just far enough, slowing his motion to see her face. He saw just love and trust shining from her eyes at him, filling his unbeating heart with more warmth than he’d ever know in his existence. “Are you.. sure, luv?”

“Yes, Spike. I love you. I love you.” Buffy gasped.

He saw and felt the edges of her own release crawling up the line of her body from the center where they were joined as one. He wasn’t far behind her with his own.

A few seconds more and he nuzzled into her neck, kissing the soft warm skin over the throbbing pulse of her. He shifted into game-face and gently, ever so gently bit down into the warm juncture of neck and shoulder. He tasted the warm sweet elixir of her blood as he felt it flow over his tongue, trickle down his throat as she hoarsely screamed his name as she fall over the abyss of pleasure.

She bit down hard at the same soft spot on his neck, tasting the metallic flavor of the drop of his blood that seeped from the mark.

The double connection was more than either of them could bear and the orgasm hit again and again.

‘Touch my world with your fingertips

             And we can have forever’

The haze of pleasure that surrounded them and filled them, gradually seeped back down.

They talked more as they held each other close, knowing they’d have so many more nights like this together,

Neither the Slayer nor the Master Vampire could ever remember ever being happier.

“Spike, lets go get your things. I want you to be here with me. Now that I’ve finally found you, I don’t want to ever lose you, love.” Buffy looked at him, with a tear that trailed down her face.

He reached out and wiped it away with a fingertip, holding it out to her. “A tear, luv?”

“Yes, Spike. A tear. I’ve discovered so much emotion inside of me that I didn’t know I’d been blocking. It’s all out now and it’s more than I can hold. So some of it leaks out. But they are happy tears, Spike. Only happy tears!” She kissed him again.

‘And we can love forever’

Buffy and Spike finally managed to get out of bed and dressed. Outside they walked down the sidewalk hand in hand; laughing, touching, kissing like new lovers will do.

Buffy had called Giles and asked him to meet them at the cemetery to help with Spike’s things. Buffy had talked to her Watcher earlier about her plan. He’d finally admitted he’d rather see her happy with Spike than miserable alone. She’d hugged him and practically danced out the door to take the note to Spike’s crypt. Giles had watched her float away on air and shook his head. He loved her. She was never going to bring home the type of guy he wanted for her. But he had to admit that he didn’t feel any man was worthy of his Slayer. But at least Spike was loyal, could love, and would spend his unlife taking care of her. She’d be safe with him.

‘Who wants to live forever

      Who wants to live forever....?

Buffy and Spike had gotten to the gate of the cemetery. They could see his crypt just past the fence. They didn’t pay any attention to the car that pulled out from the sidewalk behind them. It had no lights on.

As the car approached the couple, a window eased down and moonlight glinted off something metal.

The explosion filled the air and drowned out the noise of the car as it sped away.

Buffy felt something hit her hard in the back. Her eyes went wide and her hand fell from Spike’s grasp as she stumbled and sagged toward the ground.

Spike had felt the blow go through her body and turned to see the red ruin of the front of her tee shirt.

‘There's no time for us

             There's no place for us

What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away from us’

The vampire pulled her close to him and eased her to the ground in his lap. Someone had been screaming.

He finally realized it was him. Tears ran down his cheeks.

Buffy looked up at him, struggling to speak.

“No, luv. Save your strength. Giles will be here any minute. Hang on, Buffy! I love you! Don’t leave me, Buffy!”

Spike struggled to keep himself together for Buffy’s sake. He knew the watcher would be there any second.

‘There's no chance for us

             It's all decided for us

This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us’

The blonde Slayer’s voice was a whisper. “Spike.. I love you. Don’t leave me, Spike. Tonight.. was worth anything to me. To be with you, to love you.”

Tears fell down her cheeks as she struggled to tell him all she felt in her heart.

“Buffy, Buffy, don’t leave me!” Spike held her close as if he could keep her with him by sheer force of will.

‘Who wants to live forever

     Who wants to live forever?

      Who dares to love forever?

       When love must die’

A familiar car came around the corner with its lights on. The car stopped and Giles rushed out and across the grass to the couple on the ground.

“Spike! What’s happened?” Giles saw the tears on the vampire’s face, the blood on his shirt and then bloodied ruin of his slayer’s chest. The watcher fell to his knees beside them.

“No! Oh God, NO!”

Buffy reached out a hand very slowly to touch Giles. ”Giles… Spike said he wouldn’t leave me. He loves me. I love him, Giles. I’m happy with him. This is forever.”

Spike wiped the tears from her face again as he leaned over and kissed her bloody lips.

“Yes, Buffy. This is forever. I won’t leave you ever. I love you.”

Buffy reached her hand to touch Spike’s chest. “I love you, Spike. I’m… so…. glad I…. love … you.”

She struggled to draw a breath.

“Buffy. Don’t talk. Rest, Buffy. I love you, Buffy. Rest while we get help.” Giles told her, through the tears.

She smiled at both men. “Don’t need help. Ok.. love you both forever.”

Spike saw the light, the fire that was her, fade in her eyes as she exhaled. He felt her heart give a final weak beat and stop. There was no more blood for her shattered heart to try to pump.

‘But touch my tears with your lips

Touch my world with your fingertips

             And we can have forever

             And we can love forever

             Forever is our today’

The sound of the vampire’s grief echoed off of the building, as he screamed in the agony of his loss. He pulled Buffy’s limp body to him, rocking her back and forth in his lap as he cried calling her name, telling her over and over that he loved her and he’d never leave her.

Giles reached out a hand to grasp his shoulder. Even in his own grief, he could see that the vampire’s was an agony that can only come from years of layered experience and the loss of the most precious thing ever in over 120 years.

“Spike, we need to take her to the hospital.”

Through his tears, Spike looked at Giles.  “She’s gone. They can’t do a bleedin’ thing to help her, to help me or any of us. I told her I wouldn’t leave her. I love her.”

“I know you do. I was wrong to ever doubt it at all. What happened to her, Spike?”

“Some one drove by in a car. No lights, and they shot her. They shot my beautiful sunshine girl.” He looked at her face, soft and untroubled. She could almost be asleep.

“The sun is coming up, Spike. You have to get inside.” Giles was worried about what the vampire might do.

“NO. I told her I wouldn’t leave her. We talked forever tonight. She asked me.. ASKED me to claim her. I did. And she claimed me. That’s forever. I would never have left her. I will never leave her.”

‘Who wants to live forever

             Who wants to live forever?

             Forever is our today’

“Spike, you have to get inside!” Giles saw the pink edge of sunrise in the sky.

“No. I won’t leave her. We had tonight. Tonight was our forever. In a few minutes we’ll be together always. I’ve not seen a sunrise in over 120 years. I’m going to watch this one with my darling love.”

“Spike…” Giles pleaded with the vampire.

‘Who waits forever anyway?’

The blonde vampire that had been a part of their lives for the last 4 years, finally lifted his eyes to the watcher from the face of the woman he would love for all eternity.

“Rupert. I will not leave her. I have no reason to stay without her. I don’t need forever without her beside me.”

Spike saw understanding cross the man’s face. He looked back down at Buffy’s serene face.

“Forever, my luv. I’ll watch the sunrise with you and we’ll be together forever.”

He leaned down and kissed her lips as the sun crested the horizon.

Giles saw the dust fall over Buffy’s silent body. Spike’s leather coat was left next to her by some means he didn’t understand.

As Giles looked at the rising sun, two doves took to the air from deeper in the cemetery.

One had a spot of red on its breast. The other had black tips to its wings. They flew into the sunrise wing to wing.

As Giles watched the pair wheel into the sun, one word echoed in his mind.

“Forever.”
