The
Forgotten Day
Cordelia walked into the office a stunned
look on her face. Letting her purse fall forgotten to the floor she looked at
Angel.
Wesley sat up from the couch giving her a
worried look. "Are you okay?"
Cordelia shook her head. "No. Not at
all." She would have collapsed to the floor but Angel had slipped up
behind her and caught her fall.
"What happened?" he asked
lowering her to the couch beside Wesley.
"I wasn't feeling well so I went to
the doctor. He said...he said..."
"Yes?"
Her voice came out barely a whisper.
"I'm pregnant."
Angel's eyes widened and he moved forward toward
her. "What?"
"I'm pregnant."
"Who's is it?" Wesley asked
softly.
"I don't know. It's not possible.
I've haven't had sex...ever." She looked up at Angel fear in her eyes.
"It's
not human."
Angel sat down startled. "Are you
certain? About the human thing I mean."
Cordelia nodded slowly. "It's part
demon. I don't know how I know I just do."
"What do you want us to do? Find
whoever or whatever did this and get answers?"
"I wouldn't know where to send you for
answers. No, I think the most logical thing to do would be go to the people who
know what's going on. I want to go to
the Oracles."
"Aw, Cordy. You know they don't let
just anyone in." Angel said patiently. "I can't let you go there. I'm
afraid that they'd hurt you."
Cordelia stood up regaining her nerve.
"You can't talk me out of it. I have to go. I'm not going to...unleash a
force of evil on everyone but I'm not going to kill an innocent baby. I can't
do it. That's why I have to go. They'll have answers."
Angel nodded. "It's your
decision."
"Take me."
* * *
"You come searching answers and bring
us no gift."
"Your gift is to see my smiling
face." Cordelia said smartly.
The female Oracle frowned. "Your
sarcasm is not amusing. What do you want lower being?"
Cordelia steeled herself. Showing weakness
would only anger them. "I want some answers. I'm pregnant and it's not by any natural way I know
of."
The female froze in her pacing.
"You're pregnant? Oh, dear...we didn't expect...Oh, my."
Cordelia's eyes widened at the other
woman's horror. "What is going on? What is in me?"
"It was conceived naturally."
Cordelia crossed her arms. "Oh, was
it? I'd like to argue with that."
The female stopped pacing and stood in
front of Cordelia looking at her in what seemed to be respect.
"Did Angel ever tell you about the day
that he took back. He was human?"
"Doyle...Doyle did." Cordelia
said trying to keep raw emotion out of her voice. Now was not the time to get weepy.
"Well, during the day that was taken
back you slept with him."
"Him...?" Cordelia broke off in
terror having a feeling what name was going to be said.
"Doyle. You got pregnant but the day
was supposed to be taken back. Only...there are some things that are meant to
happen. Prophecies mention you. Not actually you but your son."
Cordelia's hands flew to her stomach her
breathing uneven. "My son?"
The Oracle nodded. "Your son is
important to future fights. He saves the world. Alan Doyle was also supposed to
play a role in his son's life. That day
messed things up. We didn't know Doyle was
the one."
Cordelia gasped and held onto the wall for
support. "You're saying he wasn't meant to die? You not only robbed me of
him you took the only memory I could have had of us...you took that and I'm
still pregnant. It's not fair. I have nothing left of him. Not even that memory."
"We could give you the memory-"
"A memory isn't exactly the same
as-"
"By sending you back to that night.
Under normal circumstances we would never even consider this but...your son is
important. You have to spend the
rest of
your life keeping him safe. The least we can do for you is send you back to
that night. I must warn you though. You can't do anything to affect the
outcomes of that evening."
Cordelia jumped forward. "Fine.
That's fine. Just let me go back, please!"
"It's done." the Oracle said
with the snap of her fingers.

Cordelia looked around herself
disoriented. She wasn't sure where she was or when in the evening.
"You okay, Princess?"
She looked up at the soft accented voice
she had missed so much. "F...fine."
He grinned and sat down next to her.
"And to answer that question you asked in a round about way. I don't know
what I'm going to do now that Angel's human.
Hopefully get my life turned back around.
Maybe get back into teaching. But most of all I want to get the nerve up to ask
you out."
Cordelia's face lit into a smile.
"You do?"
"Yeah, I just don't know how to go
about asking."
He scooted closer to her nervously. "So
I figured I'd just..." Hesitantly he leaned forward. After a moments pause
he kissed her softly.
Cordelia put a hand on the back of his
head pulling him closer. She kissed him amazed that she was getting this chance
to be with him. She pulled back, hands shaking nervously, and sent him a small
smile. "I'm glad you did."
Doyle ran his hand over her cheek. "I was afraid you wouldn't want
me to." Leaning forward he kissed her again.
Thinking of the plans she knew would unfold
she wrapped her arms around his waist pulling his toward her. Her lips never
leaving his she leaned back
against the couch cushions, pulling him with
her. He ran his hands slowly along her hips. "What was that for?"
She looked at his hands that
subconsciously traced a pattern on her shirt. "I was afraid to lose
you." she whispered looking up at him.
He grinned at her. "Really?"
"No. I'm lying." she joked.
Doyle leaned down and kissed her again.
"I'm just amazed that you...that you're not kicking me out about now."
Cordelia ran her hand down his cheek.
"I'd never do that. I'd go crazy without you." she said honestly.
"I'd miss you so much. You're the
sweetest man I've ever met. I just like to give you a hard time."
"You're pretty special too."
Cordelia pressed her lips to his. "I
don't ever want to let you go." She bit her lip, staring up at him.
"Stay with me."
"Stay...?" he asked unsurely.
"You know what I mean." she said
softly. "I'm lonely. I don't want to be by myself anymore." She nuzzled
into his neck.
Doyle's heart caught in his throat.
"Princess, do you mean..."
"Yes."
"I don't know if that's such a good
idea..."
Cordelia nuzzled his neck. "Why? You
know you want to. I can see it in your eyes. You never know what's going to
happen and if you leave..." she broke off
trying to keep the emotion out of her voice.
He was going to die in less than a week so
what could she say to make him understand?
"I need you." she whispered
tearfully. "Don't leave me. I've...I've always wanted my first time to be
with someone special that I trusted. I can't think of
anyone better than you."
Doyle ran his hands gently through her
hair.
"First?"
he asked softly. He looked at the vulnerable look in her face wondering why she
was reacting so strongly. He wasn't going to leave and if he had to he'd write.
Maybe after what happened with her parents she had fear of abandonment. Taking
a shaky breath he added. "Are you sure this is what you want?"
Cordelia nodded. "I've never been
more sure of anything."
Glancing down at her he gave in.
"Alright but we're going to do this the right way." With a small kiss
he picked her up and walked her back to the bedroom.
Cordelia nuzzled into his neck trying to
hide the tears that were forming in her eyes.
He gently laid her down on the bed. With a
gentle hand he brushed her hair away from her face. "Are you sure about
this?" he asked again.
"Absolutely." To show him she
was she reached up and kissed him. "I love you, Alan Francis Doyle. Even the
demon in you."
He pulled back as if burned. "You
know about that?"
Cordelia mentally kicked herself. She
wasn't supposed to know about that yet. "I found out. Harry said some
things and...I put it together. And I don't
care. It's what makes you, you."
"You are a very amazing woman, you
know that? Not many people would be okay with the demon thing."
"Not many people are in love with
you." She whispered running her fingertips over his lips.
Overcome with his feelings and the fact
that he was actually getting a chance with her he was completely speechless. To
try and show her how much he cared about her he covered her lips with his.
Cordelia's eyes closed as his lips slowly
explored hers. Without a care in the world she let him makes soft, tender love
to her.
His touches were loving, not in a rush to
get somewhere. His caress was that of a lover. He was treating her like a
delicate piece of glass. She fought back tears as he gently left kisses along
her collarbone.
Hand covering his she followed his
movements as he trailed across her bare skin. She prayed to the Oracles that
they never make her leave him.

Cordelia lay weakly in Doyle's arms after
her first experience. Never in a million years would she have guessed that
anything could feel this way.
"Are you okay?" he asked
quietly.
Cordelia nodded her eyes wide. "I
am."
Doyle kissed her so slowly it was almost
torment. He reveled in every touch. Her lips were so soft and enticing.
Cordelia moaned under her breath. Pressing
her lips more firmly to his she gripped the muscles in his back.
"Doyle...do you think we could..." She finished
her suggestion by an arousing kiss.
Unable to hold back like last time Doyle
rolled over and pinned her to the sheets below them. With wild abandonment
Cordelia gave in to her
crazier side and let him ravish her. Small
moans and cries escaped her lips much to her embarrassment. Not caring who
heard she tried to forget everything
that was happening and lose herself in the
moment.

Cordelia fought drifting off to sleep. She
feared if she did she'd wake up without him. Plus, she was enjoying the feeling
of his fingers running softly up
her arms. Leaning closer she looked up into
his blue eyes.
He had been for the most part silently
holding her.
Looking at him and knowing he would soon
fade away an old movie came back to her. She remembered crying while watching
the movie 'Ghost'.
The theme song ran through her head as she
watched him. The movie suddenly seemed all too real. She couldn't bear to leave
him. She needed him.
Leaning in he softly kissed her ear.
"Go to sleep."
He could tell how tired she was just by
looking at her. After three times he himself was ready to crash. "I'll be
here in the morning. I promise."
Hearing those words she buried her head
into his chest and closed her eyes.
He'd swear her shoulders were shaking with
sobs but why would she be crying? He kissed along her jaw line. "What's
wrong, Princess?"
"I'm just so happy that's all."
she lied. She nuzzled into his neck trying to memorize his every feature. his
was the last time she'd see him, touch him. Running her hands over his chest she whispered. "I'll
see you in the morning." With that she kissed him and fell asleep.

Cordelia awoke in the offices. She sat at
her desk with her head resting on her arms. Jerking to a sitting position she
looked around. After a moment she
burst into tears.
He was really gone.
Hearing her crying Angel had rushed over.
"So? How'd it go? You just got back. Well, appeared...did you find out
who's it was?"
Cordelia looked up at him her eyes
brimming in tears. "I did." Steeling herself she whispered. "It was-"
"Doyle." Angel said his face
registering shock.
Cordelia looked up in confusion.
"Yeah, how did you..." She trailed off seeing Doyle standing in the doorway.
"Doyle?"
He nodded. "I couldn't leave you
alone, Princess. When I found out what happened from our night together I
begged to stay with you at any cost."
Cordelia stood up and made her way over to
him on shaky legs. "You're here to stay?"
"Yes, I promised I'd be here in the
morning didn't I?"
Cordelia began to laugh and cry at the
same time. "Oh, Doyle...I..."
He gave her a small smile. "I can't
say I'll be the best father figure but I'll try my hardest."
"I don't think there'll be a
problem." She smiled softly. "You're already perfect in my
eyes."
With Angel watching in confusion Doyle
picked up Cordelia and kissed her. "I promised I'd never leave you. I plan
to stick to that promise."
Cordelia frantically kissed him back.
"I'm going to hold you to that."
"You had better because I'd go crazy
without you."
Cordelia smiled. "Me too."
He held her hand in his. "I came back
to help you raise our baby. I'm never leaving. I'll stay with you until the end
of time."
And when he leaned in and brushed his lips
to hers she knew it was true.
