“Cordy, I need you to get Lindsey McDonald on the phone and then leave me alone in here to talk to him, please.” Angel asked the brunette. Cordelia was both his friend and his secretary at Angel Investigations.
“With pleasure, Angel.” Cordelia told her boss and friend as she dialed the phone.
“Wolfram and Hart, How may I help you please…?”
“Lindsey Mc Donald, please. Angel Investigations calling.”
“Of course. Hold please.” Cordelia was treated to a butchered musak version of ‘Stairway to Heaven’.
“Lindsey Mc Donald. What can I do for you nice folks?” The smirk came right through the phone.
“Mr. McDonald, please hold a moment for Angel.” Cordelia handed Angel the phone and walked out of the room, but stayed where she could hear Angel’s end of the conversation.
“Lindsey, can we talk on here just between you and I or will all your buddies get to hear it later?” Angel asked. He wasn’t about to tell Lindsey anything about Buffy where the rest of Wolfram and Hart could hear it.
“Angel, you know the firm records all conversations for safety reasons.”
“Ok, that’s what I thought. Remember a few weeks ago, the tornado that came through here?” Angel asked, hoping Lindsey would get the clue.
“Yes, I do. Do you have information regarding events that occurred during the tornado?”
Worry crept through the lawyer’s voice.
“I certainly do. If you’d like to make an appointment with our investigation team later this evening, I’d be more than happy to transfer that information to you.”
“I think that can be arranged. Perhaps I can call your team back about 5pm or so? I was on my way out the door for lunch with a client.”
“That will be just fine, Mr. McDonald. Please don’t let me keep you from your lunch.”
Angel hung up the phone, hearing the faint click on Lindsey’s end as well.
“Ok, Cordelia, you can come back in now. He’s gonna call me back in a few minutes.”
Angel said to her in the same level of voice he’d been using on the phone.
Cordelia walked back in, her face a bit flushed. “Sorry. I was worried about Buffy and Spike. Are they ok, Angel?”
“You have to keep this information to yourself, Cordelia. That means I don’t want Wesley or Gunn to know right now. Buffy and Spike will tell who they need to on her end. Willow and Tara know, and I imagine they’ll tell Giles.”
“Buffy is pregnant.”
“Pregnant? As in going-to-have-Lindsey-Mc Donald’s-child-pregnant?”
“Yeah, that’s the one. Spike asked me to get him proper papers so he can marry Buffy. She’s already said yes. He wants me to be his best man. He said as far as he was concerned it’s his child, but that Lindsey has the right to know, although Spike also wants him told that if he ever comes near Buffy or the baby, Spike will kill him.”
“How is Spike gonna kill him with that chip? And are you ok with going to their wedding?” Cordelia was concerned about her two friends in Sunnydale as well as the one right in front of her.
“I imagine Spike would put up with the pain to kill Lindsey in that case.” Angel sighed and walked a couple of steps back and forth. ” It won’t be easy seeing Buffy marry someone else. But if it has to be anybody.. Well, I know Spike will take care of her. I’m glad he asked me to be there for him.”
Just then, the phone rang. Cordelia dived for it.
“Angel Investigations.”
“Is Angel there? This is Lindsey.”
“Just a moment, Mr. Mc Donald.”
Cordelia handed the phone back to Angel. This time she didn’t leave the room, Angel just turned around to give himself the illusion he was alone in the room.
“Is this phone safe, Lindsey?”
“It’s a payphone. Is this important enough to meet in person?”
“It’s about that warehouse and what happened in it. Is it that important?”
There was a few seconds of silence before Lindsey’s hushed voice replied.” Yeah. Yeah, it is. Where?”
“Do you trust coming here?”
“I have your word I’ll walk out like I walked in?”
“Physically, yeah. I can’t make you any guarantees about how you may feel about what I have to tell you.”
“Thirty minutes?”
“Yeah.”
Angel hung up the already disconnected line.
“He’s coming here? When?” Cordelia asked Angel, shocked that he was allowing Lindsey to come to the hotel.
“Thirty minutes. He’ll probably be early.”
“Cordelia, I know I can’t stop you from listening, and actually I’d rather there be someone else here that he doesn’t know about; so if you’ll just do your lurking routine out of sight but where you can listen and grab a phone, I’d appreciate it.”
“Well, of course!” Cordelia was slightly indignant that Angel might think she wasn’t more careful than that.
“There’s something else I need to tell you, since he’s coming here. I just didn’t know how to bring it up before, Cordelia….”
“What is it, Angel?” Worry tinged her voice.
“When we were planning to stop what Lindsey and Ethan were doing, we had unexpected help walk in the door. It was Doyle, Cordelia.”
“NO! It couldn’t be Doyle. He’s dead. I saw him die. He gave me these mind-splitting visions. He wouldn’t be alive and not find me.” Cordelia sat down, tears rolling down her face unheeded.
“Cordy, it wasn’t like that. He told us that the Powers had sent him back just long enough to stop them from raising Holland Manners. He knew that’s what they were doing. He also said that whoever took Holland back out would go with him. He didn’t want you to have to see him die again, Cordy. He said he got his redemption for what he did….”
“He said to tell you he loved you.”
“Angel….I loved him, Angel and never got to tell him. I still love him.” Cordelia bent her head, crying into her hands.
Angel moved to sit beside the tearful brunette. He put an arm around her shoulders to comfort her. Cordelia turned into his shoulder, as she cried.
“Cordy, he knew you loved him. I miss him too.”
They held each other for comfort.
Slowly Cordelia’s tears subsided. She got up from the sofa, wiping her eyes with her hand. “Well, I do have to go hide now. I must look horrible.”
“Thank you for telling me what he said, Angel.”
“Only moderately horrible, Cordy. And I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I just didn’t know how, but with Lindsey coming here.. He might have said something. I couldn’t let you find out that way.”
Cordelia kissed Angel on the cheek and walked to the back of the lobby toward the restroom. She had just disappeared around the corner when the front doors opened and Lindsey walked in.
“Hello, Angel.”
“Lindsey..” Come have a seat.”
Lindsey walked toward the brunette vampire, sitting down in a chair. Angel sat on the sofa, opposite the lawyer.
“I got a call from Spike this morning about Buffy.”
“Is she ok?”
“Yeah. She’s not been feeling well the last few days, and was pretty sick this morning. Spike called one of Buffy’s friends to come over. The girl stopped off at the drugstore on the way. The test she brought confirmed that Buffy is pregnant.”
Lindsey sat up toward the edge of the chair, “Mine?”
“Yes. But.. Spike sent a message. He said that you deserved to know that she is pregnant with your child; but he also said that you’re not to be around her or contact her. He’s going to marry her, Lindsey. She’s already said yes. As far as Spike is concerned, the child is his. I wouldn’t try to see her. Spike will kill you if you do. He loves her, and he’ll do whatever he has to, to protect her.”
“I also advise against letting your firm do anything to Buffy either.”
“No, I’d never let them know anything about her. I’ll do whatever I have to do to protect her from them. They don’t need to know anything about the baby or her.” Lindsey sounded very subdued, almost lost.
“You know Buffy told us what happened. She told us what you
said to her. Cordelia told us what you said to her as well.”
”As much as I don’t like you, Lindsey, I can understand some of it. You love
her. You can’t have her; you can’t be with her, yet you love her. If it’s any
consolation to you, you have given her the one thing that even Spike couldn’t
give her.”
“I know the plan was for me to lose my soul with Darla. But what none of you understand, is Darla’s not my moment of true happiness.”
“I do understand now. Buffy is… And you’re right. I do love her. Spike.. He’s one of yours isn’t he?”
“Yeah, he is. He’s also off limits.”
“No, I won’t let them go after him either. If she’s happy with him… Well, looks like you and I have one more thing in common, Angel. We both love the same woman and neither one of us can have her. You at least get to see her. You’ll get to see my child.”
Lindsey got up and walked toward the front door. He stopped, but didn’t look back at Angel. “Will you tell her I’m sorry? That I do care about her? Will you tell me about the baby?”
“Yeah, Lindsey. I’ll do that.”
“Thank you, Angel.” The dejected lawyer walked out the door of the Hyperion.
Cordelia walked back into to the lobby to stand next to Angel. “Wow. He was pretty depressed. I don’t guess I can blame him, in a way. Will you really tell him about the baby?”
“He’s the only reason Buffy is having one. He’s the only way Spike can have a child with Buffy. He’s the only way I’ll get to share Buffy’s child. Yeah, I’ll tell him.”
Angel felt as dejected as Lindsey had looked, as he stood there and watched the door the lawyer had walked through.
****************************************
It took a couple of weeks to get the papers made for Spike. Angel had Cordelia send them by certified mail as soon as he had gotten them. Spike called to let Angel know they had arrived and thanked him for them.
Buffy had told Giles what had happened and about her current condition. He had handled that much better than the news of her upcoming marriage to Spike.
However, after much ranting and grumbling, Giles had finally agreed to give Buffy away.
Buffy had asked Cordelia to be her Maid of Honor, after she had explained why to Willow. Willow, although the same age, had stepped in like an older sister to Buffy. So Willow was walking with Giles to give Buffy away.
Spike had asked Xander to stand with him as a groomsman. Much to everyone’s surprise, Xander had agreed.
Tara, Dawn, and Anya were all Brides’ Maids.
The wedding sounded complicated with all those attendants, but it was really quite small.
Kate, Wesley and Gunn came up with Angel to attend the wedding.
Cordelia had gone to Sunnydale a couple of days early to help Buffy pick out her dress.
The day of the wedding came. Buffy and Spike had decided to have their wedding outside, in the evening. They had hidden lights in the shrubs and lots of candles everywhere.
Willie the Snitch had even put the word out that no demons or vamps had better disturb anyone or anything; especially the slayer the day and night of her wedding.
Willie made sure the demons and vamps knew that all the ‘Slayerettes’ as well as the Slayer, Angel and Spike would be there; and that anyone who disturbed them, would die slowly and horribly.
Willie threatened to call in all their bar tabs as well.
The evening was a quiet warm June night. Xander had made a CD for Buffy of the music she wanted played, so they had a small CD player outside.
Spike had gotten Buffy a small but beautiful ring with an emerald instead of the usual diamond. It went beautifully with her eyes. On her right hand, she wore a small silver claddagh ring. Angel recognized the ring and knew what it meant; to her, to him and on her right hand. She still wore it with the heart pointing inward.
That evening, Spike added a matching curved wedding band to the emerald engagement ring. Buffy slipped a plain gold band on Spike’s hand. She’d wanted to get him something a bit more ornate, but he’d told he that the plain band was all he wanted, because the beautiful part of the ring was that it was from her and said he was her husband.
As the ceremony was going on, Angel saw a tiny movement at the edge of the shadows. Looking a bit more closely and unobtrusively, he saw that it was Lindsey.
* I know he wants to see her, wants to see her get married in much the same morbid way I do, but he’s gonna get killed if Spike sees him.*
Angel turned back toward the minister a bit more, so no one would see him notice the lawyer standing in the dark.
Buffy had gotten the minister to do a very non-denominational service. It was better if her about-to-be-husband didn’t get burned during the ceremony.
It was over. She was now Mrs. Buffy Anne Summers Suffolk.
As Buffy and Spike cut the cake, Angel looked around carefully. Lindsey was gone. *Thank goodness! *
Cordelia walked over to Angel and so quietly he could hardly hear her, she asked him, “Was that Lindsey back there in the shadows earlier?”
Angel just nodded. Cordelia sighed and shook her head before walking back over to Buffy.
Angel followed her. He had to go congratulate the couple even though his unbeating heart was breaking.
Xander had been warned by Giles, Anya, Willow, Tara and Cordelia as to what they would do to him if he dared to insult either Spike or Angel tonight. The image they had created for him was not a pretty sight. It would have made even Anya look compassionate when she was a vengeance demon.
So Xander was on his best behavior.
After the cake and toasts, the entire wedding party went back into Buffy’s, and now Spike’s, house to open presents
Cordelia had gotten Buffy a new robe and gown in a beautiful teal silk. Angel had gotten Spike a matching one with silk boxers and tee shirt in a deep midnight blue. They had given the two gifts together.
Dawn’s gift was the entire weekend alone while she went to Willow and Tara’s house.
Xander and Anya had been sneaking around taking pictures of the couple since they found out about the wedding. They had them developed and mounted in a beautiful leather album, along with pictures of all the Scoobies.
The couple had even made a trip one weekend to LA to get photos of the gang there.
Tara and Willow had gotten them a week’s worth of delivery meals.
Giles had thought long and hard about what to get the couple, and had finally found something very special for them. He’d given his gift to them earlier in the week.
Even Willie had sent something, along with some of the more benign demons in Sunnydale. Buffy had been truly touched at that thoughtfulness.
In amongst the other presents, there was a heavy cream-colored envelope with no name. The card had been written by hand; wishing Buffy and Spike all the happiness possible and had held a $1000.00 certified check and a $1000.00 gift certificate to a local baby store that carried not only toys, but also furniture and clothes.
Everyone was puzzled as to where it had come from.
Everyone except Angel and Cordelia.
**************************************
Buffy was 8 months pregnant. Spike and the Scoobies had taken over her patrols every night. Buffy was relegated to doing the research she hated. Of course she still trained everyday. Her doctor had even agreed. She said it would make Buffy’s delivery easier and since it was something she was used to doing, the doctor saw no problem.
It was a bit embarrassing for Spike though, when Buffy would catch him and toss him on his butt.
Buffy and Spike were puzzled though by the envelopes that came each month. They were the same cream-color as the one at their wedding, and each one had a $1000.00 certified check. There was never a name, the bank wasn’t local and couldn’t tell them anything other than that the transaction had been handled via a wire.
Buffy put the money in the bank for the baby. It had built up to about $6000.00 now.
That evening, as Spike was on patrol, the phone rang. Buffy waddled her way over to it.
“Hello?”
“Buffy, how are you doing? Are you alright?”
“Lindsey?! “
“Why are you calling me?”
“To check on you. To be sure you’re ok. I know I can’t see you, but I’ve been worried about you.”
“I-I don’t know what to say. Thank you for being concerned, but… I don’t think this is a good idea. “
“I just wanted to hear your voice. Angel said he’d give you my message. I just wanted to be sure you were alright.”
“Goodnight, Buffy.”
“Goodnight, Lindsey. Thank you.”
She heard the phone click on the other end. Pressing down the switch, Buffy released it to get a new dial tone and called Angel.
“Hello?”
“Angel, hi. I just had an odd phone call. It was Lindsey. He seemed to think you had given me some kind of message from him.”
“Why did he call you Buffy? Are you ok?”
Buffy chuckled at the dark-haired vampire she loved as her friend now. “He called to ask me the same thing you just did. If I was alright. He said he had just wanted to hear my voice.”
“What message, Angel?”
“I’m sorry, Buffy. You were busy with the wedding and all, I didn’t want to interrupt that and then I forgot. He wanted me to tell you that he was very sorry, and that he cares about you. You know he loves you, don’t you?”
“You said that before.. Are you sure about that?”
“Yeah, Buffy. I’m sure. He sat here and told me when I told him about the baby..”
“WHAT! Why did you do that!” Buffy was irritated in the way that only pregnant women can get in a matter of seconds.
“Calm down, Buffy. Spike told me to give Lindsey a message when he called me to get those papers so you two could get married. He thought Lindsey should know since it is his child, but Spike also wanted him to know that he was to stay away from you.”
“Maybe I didn’t want him to know, did anyone think about that?” Buffy’s teeth were clamped tight to keep her anger from spilling out of her mouth with her words.
“Buffy, as bad as everything that happened was, if it had not been for him, you and Spike wouldn’t be having a child. I wouldn’t be able to share your child with the two of you. In a strange way, Lindsey gave something to all of us that none of us would have had otherwise.”
Buffy was silent. She’d not thought about it like that. She’d just been afraid if the lawyer found out she was pregnant, he’d try to take the baby away from her.
“Buffy, are you still there?”
“Yeah, Angel. I was just thinking. What you said.. I hadn’t thought about it like that, but you’re right.”
“He asked me to keep him informed about the baby. I told him I would.”
“Angel, do you think he’s the source of the checks we keep getting each month?”
“Checks? More like the one at your wedding?”
“Yeah, another one just like it each month.”
“He probably is. It might be his way to ease his conscience, as well as to help you care for the baby in the only way he knows how.”
“Oh.. Angel, do me a favor.”
“Of course, love. Anything, you know that.”
“I had an ultrasound today. Everything is ok. And it’s a boy. Let him know, Ok?”
“I will, love. How does Spike feel about it being a boy?”
“He’s thrilled. Now all I have to do is sort through the names, ‘cause everyone wants him named after them.”
“Even Willow and Tara?”
“Silly vampire! Of course not them! They have some good male witch names though!”
“Ah, don’t laugh, Buffy. But you know Lindsey is pretty good with magick.”
“As if I could ever forget THAT!”
Angel laughed at her mock outrage over the phone. “Love, I need to let you go. I’m sure whatever name you decide on will be wonderful. Take care, Buffy”
“You too, Angel. I’ll call you when I have to go to the hospital. You will come won’t you?”
“You know I will. ‘Night, love.”
“ ‘Night, Angel.”
Buffy hung up the phone. She had a lot to think about from that call.
*********************************************
After the last conversation, Lindsey had called Angel and given the vampire his private number at home as well as his cell phone number. Angel called the home number now.
“Hello?”
“Lindsey, Angel.”
“Hi, Angel. What’s up? Is Buffy ok?” The lawyer knew that she was the only reason Angel would call him at home. She was the only reason Angel would call him at all.
“Yeah, she’s fine, Lindsey. She called me tonight and told me that you had called her. We talked for a bit and I explained a few things to her. A different point of view so to speak. Afterwards, she asked me to call you and let you know she had an ultrasound today. The baby is fine. It’s a boy, Lindsey. She wanted you to know.”
“A boy…. A son…. I- I don’t know what to say.” The lawyer was quiet with his own thoughts for a moment before he could continue. His voice sounded thick, choked with unexpressed emotions.
“Thank you for telling me, Angel.”
“How much longer before she is supposed to deliver?”
“About 4 weeks. It could be less or more though. She said she’d call me when she went to the hospital.
“Will you let me know please, Angel?”
“Yeah, I can do that. But you know if you go and Spike sees you…”
“I know. But you also know I have to go.”
“Yeah. Yeah, I do. Goodnight, Lindsey.”
“Goodnight, Angel.”
Angel hung up the phone and sat back. He wasn’t sure quite what to think. This Lindsey was a far different person than the one Angel had fought against. Was it that difference that Buffy made in everyone she touched or was it the baby she carried?
Angel didn’t know. But it was there.
****************************************
It had been a week since Lindsey had called Buffy. Spike was patrolling again that night when the phone rang.
Buffy answered it to hear Lindsey’s voice again.
“How are you, Lindsey? Did Angel call you for me?”
“I’m ok, Buffy. Yeah he called me. He said the ultrasound said it’s a boy.
A son, Buffy. I never thought I’d ever have any children, so this is.. I don’t know what to think about it. I know that I won’t get to be a part of his life, but I helped to create him. I never, ever meant to hurt you, Buffy. You have no idea how bad I feel about what I did. Yet, there will be a little boy in the world who I helped to create.”
Buffy thought about what Angel had said to her months ago and what she had told him. Buffy had to smile about Lindsey saying almost the same thing. “Lindsey, I can imagine a lot. You might be surprised.”
“What, Buffy? What can you imagine? I know you’ve had to do some things that hurt you, what hurt you that bad?”
“Why do you want to know?”
“I want to know you. The mother of my son, the woman who will raise him, the woman who saves the world on a regular basis, the woman who inspired the love of two vampires and one lousy lawyer.”
Buffy smiled in spite of herself. “I guess the hardest thing I ever had to do, was send Angel to Hell. We finally made love for the first time, and it was my first time ever, on the night of my seventeenth birthday. He lost his soul because of me, Lindsey. Angelus terrorized my friends and me. He killed the woman from the gypsy clan that had cursed him to begin with. She was trying to decipher the curse so she could restore his soul. My watcher loved her. Angelus killed her and left her in my watcher’s bed to find.”
“I was too weak to kill Angelus. When I looked at him, I saw my Angel. After he killed Jenny, I was strong enough to kill him. He tortured my watcher, and was going to open Hell to our world with a demon. He’d already started it when my witch friend re-cursed him with his soul. The portal was opening behind him and his soul came back. The only way to close it was with Angel’s blood. I kissed him, told him I loved him and to close his eyes, then I ran a sword through him sending him to Hell.”
“Time runs differently there, Lindsey. He was only gone from here for six months but 100 years there. Angelus killed and terrorized, but I sent Angel, the man I loved to Hell.”
“Yeah, Lindsey, I can imagine.”
“Oh, god, Buffy! I had no idea. It’s horrible. You’re more incredible than I had imagined. And no, I’d never have imagined anything like that.”
“I got through it. I didn’t think I would, but I did. I understand you were under the influence of the spell, Lindsey. But you activated that spell and got caught in it, so I don’t have a lot of room for sympathy there.”
“I was wrong, Buffy. And as much as I wish I’d not been involved in what was happening. I can’t regret it because I got to be with you. I know you did what you had to because you thought I’d hurt you. But I lied. I’d never hurt you, Buffy. Never. I can’t regret being with you. I can regret that I’ll never get to again, and that I hurt you.”
“Can Angel let me know when you go to the hospital?”
“Yeah. I’ll have him call you.”
“I told him the truth, Buffy. I do love you.” Lindsey quietly hung up the phone. He didn’t want to hear Buffy tell him she was sorry about his feelings or that she didn’t love him. He knew all of that. But hearing it would have hurt too much.
Buffy sat and looked at the phone. She had no idea what to think.
* God, why me? Angel, Spike, Lindsey.. all say they're in love with me… I love Angel, but not like I used to.. I’m just glad we can function as friends, even though I know it hurts him. It’s selfish of me, but.. it has to be that way. And Spike, I love. I love him as much as I used to love Angel, but there isn’t the unhappy part with Spike. Just the good part.
Then Lindsey… I should be angry with him for what he did, but I just can’t find it in me to be angry. I don’t love him, but I understand all too well what it is like to want someone you can never have, never be with. We all do. Me, Angel, Spike, and Lindsey. The four of us all tied together by fate? Destiny? A cruel joke? *
Buffy shook her head and waddled to the kitchen to clean up the dishes from earlier. Even though he still needed blood, Spike had gotten into the habit of helping her make dinner and eating normal food with her.
It was odd really. Angel didn’t handle normal food real well, but Spike seemed to actually enjoy it. Sometimes, it was almost like Spike was more human than Angel was, even though they were both vampires. It couldn’t be just the chip that had made the difference.
* All of this is just too much to think about.. It’s way too wiggy and makes my head hurt.*
The back door opened and Spike came inside. He shrugged his duster off and hung it behind the door, then turned to put his arms around his wife.
“What are you doing on your feet, luv? You’re suppose to rest.” He kissed her along the side of her neck, feeling her relax into him.
“Just cleaning up a bit, babe. I’m fine. Even better now that you’re home. Everything ok tonight?”
“Yeah, just a few vamps out. Now they’re just ‘dust in the wind’.” Spike snickered in her ear.
“Oooo! That was bad! Bad, bad vampire! No cookie!” Buffy teased the blonde vampire that was her husband and her love.
“What? You wouldn’t give me cookies when we were engaged before, and now that we’re married I still don’t get any cookies? You’re a mean wench.” Spike teased Buffy as he held her closer, snuggling against her body.
“Hey, you knew I was a wench when you married me.”
“You seem a bit happy to see me, lover. How about we go upstairs to bed?”
“I’m always happy to see you, pumpkin. Thought you’d never ask..” Even with the bit of weight Buffy had gained, Spike picked her up easily. Buffy reached up to pull his head down into a kiss as he carried her up to their bedroom, kicking the door shut behind them with his foot.
***********************************************
Lindsey sat looking at the phone after he had hung it back up. He had no idea Buffy had had to do the things she’d told him about. The file the firm had on her, what seemed ages ago, had very little information about what she did and not much of her personal information. It had a few photos of her taken at a distance with a telephoto lens. It had been those photos that had caught his attention and had lead to him being caught in his own web of magick.
She was small and beautiful, strong and curiously fragile. She’d given him a small glimpse tonight of what had made her that way.
Lindsey had a bit more insight into Angel as well. He could understand the vampire’s brooding and guilt. No wonder Darla hadn’t been the source of Angel’s happiness.
What Lindsey had learned tonight made everything he knew or thought he had known, so much more complicated than he could have imagined.
Lindsey also knew that the firm could never know any of this information.
*************************************************
Lindsey called Buffy again a few nights later. They talked for a while and he learned more about her life. This time he exchanged information with her and told her a bit about his life. She’d asked him about himself this time.
He’d gotten in the habit of calling her every few days and then finally every night. They’d talk for fifteen or twenty minutes.
Finally on one of the calls, Lindsey offered Buffy his phone number. He gave her his number at home and his cell number. He also cautioned her to never; if she had to call him at work, leave her name or number or anything else about herself. The firm would use anything they could get their hands on.
“So how much do they know about me so far?” Buffy asked him, after he’d cautioned her.
“Nothing more than they did from the beginning. I’d never tell them anything about you at all, Buffy.”
“Why, Lindsey? Isn’t that part of your job?”
“It’s suppose to be, but you’re not my job. I don’t want you connected in anyway to my job. It might have started that way long before you ever came to LA that time; but it will never be that way again.” He didn’t know how to tell her strongly enough the lengths he was prepared to go to, to keep Wolfram and Hart away from her.
“So what changed your mind, Lindsey?” Buffy asked the lawyer.
“You did. All that you’ve told me about yourself. Everything I saw and felt with you that one time. Do you know that you know more about me than anybody? I’ve told you things I’d never tell anyone else.” Lindsey explained to her. He didn’t know how to make her understand what was going on inside of him, because he wasn’t sure that he knew what it was either.
“I don’t know what to say, Lindsey. Thank you for trusting me enough to tell me.” This man confused Buffy.
“Thank you, love. Thank you for listening to me and being willing to talk to me. Goodnight, sweetheart.” Lindsey knew he was taking a risk by calling Buffy by endearments, but they were always there in his mind. He just took the chance and finally let them out.
“Goodnight, Lindsey.” Buffy hung the phone up.
* What am I going to do with him? I do enjoy talking to him, but I’m not in love with him. But he’s the only reason Spike and I can have a child. Maybe he’s not as bad as he seemed to be. Oh Hell! I used to think Spike was completely evil too. He was bad, but not completely and once he started changing.. Well, it took me a while, but here I am married to him now. *
**********************************************
Several nights later, Buffy woke up around one a.m. feeling vaguely uncomfortable. She tried to get out of bed carefully without disturbing Spike. He always looked so young and vulnerable when he was asleep. Buffy enjoyed looking at his lean form relaxed in sleep; and thought about how much she loved him.
As she tried to roll her bulk out of bed, Spike stirred, reaching for her again.
“Hmm? What’s wrong, luv? Are you ok?”
“Shhhh. Go back to sleep Spike. I’m just uncomfortable. You shouldn’t lose sleep just because I am.” Buffy kissed him gently.
“No, luv. If you’re not feeling well, I need to be awake with you. You know it could be anytime now.” Spike struggled upright, rubbing the last dregs of sleep from his eyes. He walked around the bed, reaching out to help Buffy stand up. She rose gracefully to her feet in spite of her increased girth.
Standing in front of her husband, she took in his naked body. He was pale, but sculptured, lean. She never got enough of looking at his body.
“What are you thinking, luv?” The blonde vampire asked his sexy, very pregnant slayer wife.
Buffy looked up into his face. “I was thinking how beautiful your body is and how much I love you.”
“Buffy, I never get over the fact that you’re my wife. That you love me.” He pulled her as close as he could and hugged her gently, not wanting to squeeze her too tightly.
“You’re as beautiful to me now as you were the first day I ever saw you. I love you, Slayer.”
“Then, oh darling vampire mine, help me get dressed and call Angel and Giles. I think we need to go to the hospital. Wake Dawn. She needs to call Willow. We’ll drop Dawn off on our way.” Buffy squeezed his hand tight as the second and harder contraction hit her.
**********************************************
Spike helped Buffy dress and got her downstairs. She paced back and forth in the living room while Spike woke Dawn and then called Giles, Angel and Willow as Dawn dressed.
Dawn came down the stairs to check on her sister. “Buffy, are you ok?”
“I’m fine, Dawnie. Your nephew is just doing a tap-dance against my ribs and insisting he’s ready to meet the rest of the world.”
“You mean, you’re gonna have the baby tonight?” Dawn asked with awe in her voice. She’d taken sex ed. in school, but the thought that this was about to happen to her sister still amazed her.
“Good chance of it, Dawn. But we kinda need to go to the hospital first please? I don’t think you and Spike really want to deliver this baby here.”
Spike heard Buffy’s comment to Dawn “Oh god, no! I don’t know bloody hell about delivering babies. Dawn help me get your sister to the car. Just grab her bag and open the door for me.” Spike scooped Buffy up in his arms.
“Ah, Spike.. As much as I like for you to hold me, this is kinda uncomfortable. Just let me walk and hang on to you, ok babe?”
Spike promptly put her down and did as she asked him. He’d never thought a vampire could be a nervous wreck, but he was about to turn into the first one.
Once Buffy was in the car. Spike drove toward the hospital, stopping at Willow and Tara’s to let Dawn go in. Willow came out to the car for a minute as Tara stood in the doorway waiting for her partner and Dawn.
Dawn leaned in the window and kissed her sister on the cheek. “I’ll see you this afternoon, Buffy.. I love you.”
“I love you too, Dawnie.” Buffy told this girl who had become her sister in all the ways that mattered.
Willow had reached the car and also leaned in to hug her best friend. “We’ll see you later today, Buffy. Call if you need anything ok, Spike?”
Buffy kissed Willow’s cheek, as Spike reassured the redheaded witch. “I’ll let you know as soon as the lil’ tike is here, Red.”
Willow walked back to the front door and waved as Buffy and Spike pulled away.
*******************************************
As soon as Spike’s call had awakened him, Angel picked up the phone and called Lindsey.
Buffy had told Angel about her conversations with the lawyer over the last few weeks. He’d talked to Lindsey several times as well. Once you got him away from work, he wasn’t a bad guy. But what he did for Wolfram and Hart just clashed with everything Angel and Buffy did in their life.
“ Hmmlllo?”
“Lindsey.. Wake up, boy! Spike just called me. Buffy’s on the way to the hospital in labor.”
Lindsey McDonald found himself suddenly wide-awake and alert. “What? Now? Is she ok?”
Angel laughed. Lindsey sounded almost as panic-stricken as Spike had over the phone.
“Yeah, now. She’s fine. I’m leaving in a few minutes. Are you still planning to go?”
“Of course I am. I have to go, Angel.” He’d gotten out of bed and was dressing as he held the phone on his shoulder.
Angel sighed into the phone. “I know. I’ll try to break it to Spike and see if I can get him to be calmer about it. See you there.”
“Thanks, Angel. Be careful.”
“You too.”
They hung up the phone
Angel did understand. He didn’t have to like it though. It didn’t matter that Buffy was married to Spike and having Lindsey’s child. She was still HIS girl. In his heart, she would always be his girl.
Angel was on the way to see her now.
***************************************************
Giles arrived at the hospital a few minutes after Buffy and Spike.
Spike was in the process of pacing a hole in the floor of the waiting room when Giles found him.
“Where is Buffy?”
“They took her back to do something to her. They said to get her ‘prepped’ whatever the bloody hell that is!” Spike continued pacing.
“I believe it involves things that we men would prefer not to know about, much less be a part of.” Giles told the almost frantic blonde vampire.
“Yeah, well, it’s my wife back there and I want to bleedin’ be with ‘er!”
“Spike, you might want to not wear out the floor. We may need it later.” Giles tried to convince Spike to perhaps calm down.
“ ’ow can you sit there so bleedin’ calm, Watcher?”
Giles got to his feet and walked over to the pacing Spike, laying his hand on the vampire’s arm. He’d gotten to know Spike over the last few months and although he was still a vampire; Giles had come to trust him and knew he loved the blonde slayer and would do just about anything for her. “Spike, if you’re this frazzled when the nurses come back out for you, they may not let you in for fear of upsetting Buffy.”
Spike stood perfectly still. “Oh.”
“I feel like I’m about to go out of my bleedin’ mind, Rupert. I’m worried about ‘er. Women when I was ‘uman would die from ‘avin’ children.”
“Ah, I understand. Well, the process is much better today, Spike. Buffy is strong and young and in good health. She’ll be fine. But if you bloody well keep pacing, I may have to stake you myself. I’m trying very hard to remain calm when I’d just as soon be pacing with you.” Giles told him through clinched teeth.
Spike looked at the older man in front of him. “Hmm. I see where the Slayer gets all that teeth-clinching from now.”
“Actually… I got it from her. Or possibly because of her.” Giles took his glasses off to clean them. A sure sign of his nervousness.
“I had always hoped for a Slayer. Then I was assigned to Buffy. I thought she was going to be the death of me for sure from worry. She may still be before this is all over.”
“She is the oldest slayer on record. But she’s also the only one to date not one but two vampires, marry one of them, have a child.. I’m getting too old for this.” Giles turned Spike’s arm loose and headed back to his seat.
Spike looked at Giles with a glint in his eyes.” And you’re like the rest of us. You’d do just about anything for ‘er because you love ‘er.”
Giles looked up into Spike’s eyes. “Yes. There is that.”
Both men started to chuckle.
The nurse came back out into the waiting room to find them like that.” Are both of you with Mrs. Suffolk?”
Spike jumped to his feet. “Yes. I’m her ‘usband, this is her father.”
“My father should be along as well. Tall dark ‘aired broody type.”
“Alright. I can send him back when he arrives. If you’ll come with me I can take you back to your wife and daughter.” The nurse explained to both men.
She turned, leaving them to follow in her wake.
***************************************
Buffy was in a smaller room in a strange looking bed-chair. She was half sitting, half reclining.
“What is that thing you’re on, Buffy? It looks like a torture device.” Spike asked her.
“Close. It’s a ‘birthing table’, so they tell me.” Buffy reached for the hand of the blonde vampire she was married to and in love with..
“Hi, Giles.” She said to her pseudo-father as she turned her head to look at him.
“I’m glad you’re here too.”
Giles reached for Buffy’s other hand. “Where else would I be?”
Buffy took in Giles’ very different outfit. Instead of his ever-present tweed, he was wearing jeans, a rust colored tee-shirt, with a deep green long-sleeved shirt over it. And unbuttoned about half way. The sleeves were turned up to mid forearm.
“You look pretty spiffy to come see me get all sweaty and have a baby.”
“I believe you had previously said something to the effect of this child being my grand child, did you not?”
“Yeah, Giles. Do you think I’d let our child have anyone else for a grandfather?” She looked at Spike and back to Giles, “ Except maybe for grandfather Angel, when he gets here.”
Spike burst out laughing. “Cor, luv! That’ll tweak the Poof’s ego a bit.”
“Spike, you behave!” Buffy looked at Giles trying to stifle a laugh. “You too!” She glared at her watcher.
*********************************************
It had been almost two hours since Spike had called Angel, when he walked into the room where Buffy, Spike and Giles were. Buffy looked a bit sweaty and tired, but seemed to be cheerful.
“Angel!” Buffy cried out when the dark haired vampire entered the room. He went straight to her and kissed her forehead.
“How are you doing, love?” Angel asked her.
“Ok. Tired, but ok. Glad you’re here.” She started to giggle.
“What’s so funny?” Angel didn’t know quite what to think.
“Spike, tell him what we were talking about earlier, Babe” Buffy couldn’t talk and breathe at the same time a contraction rippled through her body.
“Hullo, Angel” Spike just grinned at his sire.
“Hi, Spike. Giles.”
“Hullo, Angel. Nice to see you.” Giles told the older vampire.
“Seems that Buffy has an odd sense of ‘umor today. She said that Giles and you get to be the baby’s grandfathers.” Spike told his sire.
Angel looked at Spike and then at Buffy. “I’d be honored to be one of the baby’s grandfathers. Thank you.”
Angel looked at the other three in the room. “I need to tell you something pretty quick though. I’ve been talking with Lindsey all these months and he’d asked to know when Buffy went into labor. I called him and told him so he’s on his way here. He wants to see her and the baby.”
“I thought you should know before he got here.”
“What the bloody hell is that soddin’ git doin’ comin’ ‘ere?” Spike was angry.
“And what the ‘ell did you tell him anything for?”
“Spike! I told Angel he could tell him. You told him I was pregnant. You said he had a right to know.” Buffy told a very upset Spike.
“Spike, he’s asked about her the entire time. He’s been concerned about her and the child.” Angel tried to reason with his own childe.
“Spike? Are you happy that Buffy is having a baby? That you’ll have a son to raise with her?” Giles asked Spike.
“Of course I am! What kind of a question is that?” Spike looked shocked at Giles for even asking.
“Then remember that even though the circumstances were not a good thing, he IS the reason the two of you are having this child.” Angel followed up behind Giles’ question.
“Spike?” Buffy asked him quietly.
He leaned down next to her. “Yes, luv.”
“Spike, he’s called to check on me on a regular basis. The money we’ve been getting is from him for the baby. Get one thing straight right now, William Spike Suffolk. I love you. I’m glad I’m married to you. You have no reason to be jealous of Lindsey McDonald. That’s what this is, isn’t it?” Buffy asked her husband.
Spike looked into her tired hazel eyes. But other than tired, he saw nothing in her eyes except love for him. “Are you sure, luv? He’s human, and warm and can walk in the sunlight with you.”
Angel started at his childe’s words to the woman they both loved. Spike had no way of knowing that he had said almost those same words to Buffy years ago.
Buffy glanced at Angel and then quickly back at Spike.” I don’t look that good in direct light.” She looked back at Angel and caught his eye. He smiled slightly at her before she looked back to Spike.
“Spike, I am not in love with Lindsey. I have found out that he probably can be a nice man. I like him. But I love you, you damned aggravating vampire!” She gasped as another contraction hit and she clamped down on her husband’s hand.
Spike was beginning to think she was going to break his hand before she released it as the contraction let up.
“Alright, luv. I was just worried you might want him instead. Don’t break my hand. I believe you. And I love you with all of my unbeating heart.” He leaned down and kissed her gently.
Buffy reached up with the other hand and pulled Spike closer, kissing him thoroughly before releasing him.
The door to the room opened and Buffy’s doctor stepped in. Everyone was introduced then the doctor asked them to step out while she examined Buffy.
***********************************************
As Spike, Angel and Giles all waited in the lobby, Lindsey walked into the waiting room.
Spike turned and just looked at the man before he turned back. Angel walked over to Lindsey.
“Hello, Lindsey. I see you got here. The doctor is with Buffy right now, they’ll probably let us back in when she’s finished.”
“Thanks, Angel.” Lindsey looked very uncomfortable.
Giles turned to the newcomer and looked him over, before extending his hand. “Mr. McDonald, Rupert Giles. How do you do?”
“Fine, thanks for asking. And Lindsey is fine. No need to be formal.”
“Alright. Thank you.” Giles told him before stepping over to Spike.
“Spike, perhaps you should take the young man outside for a moment and speak with him. It would be wise to resolve this before we go back in with Buffy.”
“I don’t want ‘im near ‘er Giles.” Spike sounded almost a bit desperate.
“Spike, listen to me. She is happy with you. As much as I hate to say it, she is much happier with a vampire mate than a human one. It’s probably because that is who she fell in love with first. I do not believe you have anything to worry about, but go talk to him and get it settled.” Giles told the younger vampire.
* What in the world am I doing, giving love advice to a vampire?!*
Spike walked over to Lindsey. “Can we step outside a minute and talk, mate?”
Lindsey just looked at Spike and nodded, following him out into the parking area of the hospital. It was still about an hour before sunrise and a bit cool. Lindsey had left his coat in the car even though it was almost December.
“Buffy says you’ve been checkin’ on her. Angel said you’d asked him how she was doing all along. Is it true that you love her?” Spike asked the younger man.
“Yes, it is true. All of it. You have every right to hate me, Spike. All of you have the right to hate me. I don’t want to take her from you. She doesn’t love me. That night….” Lindsey took a deep breath. “That night, I knew she was picturing someone else in her mind. As soon as I saw her I knew I could never hurt her, regardless of what I said at the time. It was your name she whispered at one point. Not mine, not Angel’s. Not anyone else’s. It was your name. She loves you.”
Lindsey walked a step or two, looking out into the night as he continued to speak. ”I’d do anything for her I can. I just want to be able to see the baby. I never thought I’d ever have any children, and even though you’ll be his dad, I’d still like to know the man he’ll become. I’d like to know her better. I’d like to know you too. She loves you, so vampire or not, you must be a good man.”
Spike heard the pain in the man’s voice. Spike knew how he must be feeling; it had been not that long ago that he’d felt the same way.
“We’re a bleedin’ pitiful lot, we are. Each one of us has been in love with her and not been able to be with her.”
“Yeah, I should be staked for saying so, but come back in with us. But let me warn you, boy. If you ever touch her like that again, I’ll eat you myself no matter how bad it ‘urts me. What you see me let Angel get away with is all you can push your luck with.”
“I understand. Thank you for letting me see her and the baby. I promise not to do anything I shouldn’t. I just want you to know that I’ll never do anything that would hurt her, or you or anyone else she cares about. For me that means Angel is on that same list. I’ll have to fight my firm, but that’s what I’ll do.” Lindsey held out his hand to the vampire.
Spike took the hand offered and shook it briefly before they headed back inside.
Giles saw the two men approaching. “Good you’re here. They’ve just said we can go back in but we have to wear these paper gowns.”
“Lindsey, I told them you were her brother-in-law, so you could get in. You’re a widower.. Spike’s sister.” Angel added when he saw the look Lindsey gave Spike.
“Ok. Thanks, Angel”
The men in her life went back into Buffy’s room.
******************************************************
Buffy was looking quite sweaty and tired. Her blonde hair was damp and limp.
All four men thought she’d never been more beautiful
Spike went to her side, taking her hand.
“Hi you..” Buffy said to her husband.
“ You ok, luv?” There was concern in Spike’s voice.
“Yeah, babe. Tired.” Buffy turned and saw Lindsey close to the door.
“Hi, Lindsey. Long time no see. “
Lindsey walked to the other side of the bed from Spike. Buffy reached her hand out and he took it in his hand. He leaned over to kiss her cheek
“You won’t believe me, but you look beautiful, sweetheart.”
“I look like crap and it’s all your fault” Buffy told him as another contraction hit. She started squeezing the hands of both men.
Angel saw the look of pain cross Lindsey’s face and quickly reached to remove his only hand from Buffy’s grasp, taking her hand himself.
“She can break it.”, was all Angel told him, by way of explanation.
Giles started to laugh as Buffy glared at him. “I’m sorry, Buffy. It’s just that you’ve used the universal complaint from all women in labor, or so I’ve been lead to believe.”
“The ‘this-is-all-your-fault’ comment.”
“That is so true. You have no idea how often I get to hear that one from my patients.” The doctor had entered the room behind them unheard.
“I think our patient is ready to give everybody a new relative in a few minutes, so if I can get all of you adoring fellows up at the head of the bed…”
“The father can come watch and help with the delivery if he’d like” The doctor looked straight at Spike.
“Go ahead, Spike. I’ll hold her other hand if she promises not to break mine.” Lindsey told the blonde vampire.
Spike gave them all a panicked look and walked down to the end of the ‘bed’.
Buffy was having very regular and frequent contractions now and panting with each of them.
************************************************
“Ok, now. The head’s starting to crown, push when I say so.” The doctor told Buffy.
Angel was supporting her shoulder on one side while Lindsey did the same on the other side. Giles kept reminding her to breathe, acting as coach for her. Spike was looking even more pale than normal.
With the next pain, Buffy gasped and pulled her hands away from the two men next to her, grabbing the sides of the bed.
“Push!” The doctor told her.
Buffy did.
Spike fainted.
Angel ran to grab him before a nurse could do so and discover his unbeating heart.
Angel glanced at the birth process and almost fainted on top of Spike. He managed to stop the world from spinning before he got off of it, and sat Spike down in a chair close to the head of the bed, next to Giles.
“Are you both alright?” Giles asked the two vampires with an undertone of worry in his voice.
“Uh, yeah, maybe?” was Angel’s reply. Spike just sat and looked dazed.
With the next push, the baby’s cry echoed through the room. Buffy leaned back, exhausted but feeling curiously fulfilled.
The doctor looked at Spike. ”Are you able to come cut the cord for your son?” She had a slight smirk on her face. *It’s a good thing men don’t have the children. As many fathers as I see pass out, they’d never get through it *
“I think I’ll just bloody well sit here. That floor is bleedin’ ‘ard!” Spike looked up at Lindsey. “You do it.”
The lawyer just looked back at the vampire before moving next to the doctor.
He paled as well, but kept on his feet. The doctor handed him the scissors and indicated where he should cut between two little white plastic clips.
Lindsey cut the cord there and laid the scissors where the doctor indicated, then she handed the baby to the nurse.
Over in the corner the nurse weighted and cleaned the little boy up, finally wrapping him in a blanket and handing him to Buffy.
*************************************************
It was a couple of hours after the delivery when Willow and Tara got to the hospital. They were a bit surprised to find not only Spike and Giles, but also Angel and an unknown man in the room with Buffy.
Willow and Tara went to hug Buffy, then made the hug-rounds to Spike, Angel and Giles.
”Willow, Tara.. Don’t leave Lindsey out in your hug-fest. This is Lindsey
McDonald.”
“Lindsey, my best friend Willow and her significant other, Tara.”
The two witches didn’t quite understand why the lawyer was there. They did know what had happened, after all; but they included him in a quick hug as well.
“So Buffy, did you decide on a name yet?” Willow asked her friend.
“Yeah, Wil. Spike and I talked about it just a little while ago Angel went to the blood bank and made a withdrawal, so to speak for him and Spike; while Lindsey and Giles got some coffee “ Buffy smiled at the memory of the actual conversation. She’d told Spike what she intended to name their son and none of his arguments swayed her in the least.
She’d finally settled it by telling him. “I had the baby, I’ll name him.”
Spike had learned over the years he’d know Buffy not to argue with her when she had her ‘resolve’ face on, he’d lose every time.
Buffy hit her nurse call light and asked them to bring the baby to her now.
It was just a few minutes before the nurse came and in and handed Buffy the tiny boy.
“Let me introduce him to some pretty important family members first.” Buffy told all of them, and then handed the baby to his Grandfather Giles who passed him over to his Grandfather Angel. There was also Aunt Willow and Aunt Tara, and Uncle Lindsey. Then of course there was his dad, Spike.
Tara had surprised them all by bringing out a camera and catching pictures of each of them with the new baby.
Angel and Giles had looked like the child might break, but the look of wonder on the faces of Spike and Lindsey was priceless.
It was finally time to do the ‘Naming Ritual’. Tara and Willow set up just a few items and took the baby.
They wiped his forehead, and chest with rose water. Willow and Tara took turns with the parts of the ritual.
“We bring forth a child into the light of the world. May the God and Goddess watch over him as he grows to follow the path of the Light.”
“We make him known to the Powers That Be, that they may guide his steps. This is William Liam Lindsey Suffolk, and we ask that you watch over him and heed him when he may call to thee.”
“Who shall guide this child’s steps?” Willow asked.
“I am his mother, Buffy Anne Summers Suffolk”
“I am his father, William Spike Suffolk”
“Who would you ask to care for this child in your stead?”
“We would ask that Lindsey McDonald be his God Father.” Buffy and Spike said together.
Willow looked at Lindsey. “Do ye accept this charge?”
“I will” Lindsey replied.
“Be there any others?” Tara asked.
“His Grandfather, Rupert Giles” Buffy supplied.
“His Grandfather, Angel Liam O’Malley.” Spike stated.
“Do the two of you accept this charge?” Willow and Tara said together.
“I will” Giles and Angel both replied.
“As it is said, so shall it be!” Stated Willow. A blue-white light filled the room for a few of seconds then faded.
“Here’s your son, Buffy. What are you gonna call him for everyday?” Willow asked her friend.
Before Buffy could reply, Spike got in his say. :”We’re gonna call him Will.” Spike turned and kissed his wife and child.
*********************************************
Two weeks later the entire LA gang came up for the weekend to see Buffy, Spike and Will. They were all staying at the mansion, including Lindsey.
All weekend long, it was all Buffy and Spike could do to get any opportunity to hold Will.
Since they could see him any time, Xander and Anya had opted to handle things in the kitchen.
Gunn, Wesley and Cordelia had all had several turns to hold the little boy; but more often than not, they had to convince Angel or Lindsey to let them hold the child.
“You know, our son has so many Aunts and Uncles he’s not going to know how to keep up with them all when he gets older.” Buffy told Spike as she watched their friends with their son.
“He’ll have them all wrapped around his fingers just like his beautiful mother does.” Spike whispered back.
“I knew there was a reason I love you. “ Buffy teased him.
**********************************************
Angel and Lindsey had worked together to destroy the special projects division of Wolfram and Hart.
It would be years, if ever, before the law firm managed to get back on their feet.
Angel, Wesley, Cordelia and Gunn had managed to stay in LA. But Lindsey had to leave. The word was out that he was worth much more to the firm dead instead of alive.
Angel had given the lawyer a key to the mansion, and Lindsey had lived there until he could get his own small private practice established in Sunnydale. Then he bought a condo close to Giles.
He was one of the few lawyers that would take cases for the demons. However, Lindsey made it clear to all of them, he would be ethical in his practice.
The practice was lucrative even if it was small, so Lindsey always contributed to the care of his godson.
Buffy and Spike knew they could always leave Will with Lindsey when they needed a baby-sitter.
Lindsey was in and out of the house on Revello Drive on a regular basis.
Angel often spent a couple of weekends a month in Sunnydale seeing his grandson as well as Buffy and Spike.
It was amazing the change that one song and one spell had made in the lives of so many people.
