The War

As he watched her sleeping, he realized that the war was

over. He had ultimately found the key to her heart with his self

sacrifice, devotion and need simply outlasting her fear. Now she

stirred awake in his arms. Her eyes opened and her smile warmed him like

no fire could ever have. Everything he had ever wanted he saw in

her eyes; trust, desire, love. He smiled back and finding words

inadequate to capture his joy he laughed. Yes, the war was over and as

he leaned over her and their lips met, he knew he'd won.
